This is a population that you would move away from "automaticity" and towards "more conscious attention" to the task at hand. It is automatic movements that are most impaired with this population, so I tend to work towards tasks that require attention to perform- stepping over obstacles, etc. This often helps to limit or fend off freezing and festinating components of the disorder that appear after a certain amount of walking as the individual reaches their limit.
At a recent presentation, a question was raised about experience and ideas with Parkinson's patients. Does anyone have direct experience or know of good tips when it comes to this population?
