- The lowest strap on the harness should be right at the level of the greater trochanter. The harness should be donned in standing or supine.
- Use foam to distribute loads better.
- The harness should be VERY snug.
- A good test to determine if it is snug enough is the "Two finger test". If you are able to get your two fingers between the strap and your patient, it is too loose.
- The top strap of the harnes wrap maybe loose if it reaches patient's rib cage.
- The groin strap should fit snugly. The purpose of the groin strap is to prevent the harness from sliding up. If this is too loose, the harness would slide up until the groin piece is against the body and therefore making the patient less comfortable.
- Keep in mind what the patient is wearing. If they wear silky pants or top, the harness will tend to slip up on the slick material. Cotton pants and top work well.
